Adding a second preamp tube --  Reply with quote

Here is a wild-a##ed idea I had. Please bear with me -- Ima newbie in that dangerous stage ...

I am a tube roller and cap tweaker type. Ergo - one of my main frustrations with the Vjr is that it only has ONLY 1 preamp tube. As I look at the schematic however, seems to me that it has 2 preamp gain stages running through the two sides of the 12AZ7. Would it be possible to add a second 12AX7 (or equiv) and reroute the second gain stage through the second tube? Wasteful? yes -- but fun. Would it oscillate like crazy? What kinda measures could I take to defeat that

The amp I would do it to has the Mercury Mag PT in it? Is it hefty enough to handle heater duties on this third tube? What if I also added another 6V6 (4 tubes) as per the Mercury Mag upgrade kit. I would do all this madness to a 6V6 Fender Watts board.

Any suggestions or just plain laughter woudl be appreciated. Thanks. Idea
